Upgrading your existing router, network settings, or simply being connected to the wrong network (such as a Guest Network or mobile Hotspot) are just a few reasons that may cause your printer to appear offline. In many cases, your Brother device may still be connected to the network.

Why is my printer connected, but not printing?

Your Brother device may have an unsuitable IP address for your network. It sounds complicated, but it’s a common issue among any Wi-Fi device in your home. Before you start downloading new drivers or resetting your Brother device, download Network Repair and run the tool to automatically correct your problem.

Use the Network Connection Repair Tool (Windows)

Use the Network Connection Repair Tool to fix the Brother machine's network settings. It will assign the correct IP address and the Subnet Mask.

You must log on with Administrator rights.

 

Make sure the Brother machine is turned on and is connected to the same network as your computer.

Click here to download the Network Connection Repair Tool. Download the file to the temporary folder (e.g. C:\Downloads).

 

Once the download is complete, double click on the downloaded file to extract it.

 

The Network Connection Repair Tool should open.

NOTE: For Windows Vista or later users, when the User Account Control screen appears, click Allow or Yes.

 

Follow the instructions on the screen.

If two or more Brother machines of the same model name are found, this utility can only diagnose one of these machines. Please turn off the other machine(s) temporarily, then click Retry.

Click image (Start) > All Programs > Brother > Brother Utilities.

Click the drop-down list and select your model name (if not already selected). Click Tools in the left navigation bar, and then click Network Connection Repair Tool.

Windows 8/Windows 10

Launch image (Brother Utilities), and then click the drop-down list and select your model name (if not already selected). Click Tools in the left navigation bar, and then click Network Connection Repair Tool.

If the User Account Control screen appears, click Yes.

Follow the on-screen instructions.

Check the diagnosis by printing the Network Configuration Report.

The Network Connection Repair Tool will start automatically if you select the Enable Connection Repair Tool option in the Status Monitor. Right-click the Status Monitor screen, and then click Other Settings>Enable Connection Repair Tool. This is not recommended when your network administrator has set the IP address to Static, since it will automatically change the IP address.

If the correct IP address and the Subnet Mask are still not assigned even after using the Network Connection Repair Tool, ask your network administrator for this information.
