Google Backup and Sync is an app for Mac that backs up files and photos safely in Google Drive and Google Photos, so they're no longer trapped on your computer and other devices. Just choose the folders you want to back up, and backup app takes care of the rest. Automatically back up all of your content to the cloud – easily access your files in Google Drive and your photos in Google Photos.
You probably keep your most important files and photos in different places—your computer, your phone, various SD cards, and that digital camera you use from time to time. It can be a challenge to keep all these things safe, backed up, and organized, so today we’re introducing Google Backup and Sync app.
It’s a simpler, speedier and more reliable way to protect the files and photos that mean the most to you. This new tool replaces the existing Google Photos desktop uploader and Drive for macOS.
How to Install
On your computer, click Download Backup and Sync.
Read the Terms of Service and click Agree and download.
After it’s downloaded, open InstallBackupAndSync.dmg.
Move Backup and Sync to your Applications folder.
Open Backup and Sync.
If you see a warning that "Backup and Sync is an application downloaded from the Internet," click Open.
Sign in with your Google Account username and password.
Choose your sync settings and click Next.

Backup and Sync now displays shortcuts in Drive if you're a member of the shortcuts beta program.
Backup and Sync version 3.46 and above supports macOS Catalina (10.15). Earlier versions of Backup and Sync do not work well and may display error messages if used on macOS Catalina. Backup and Sync now displays dialogs on macOS Catalina to request access to Documents, Desktop folders, and Apple Photos Libraries.

Updated the Preferences page to clarify that the “Removing items...” setting applies only between Backup and Sync and Google Drive. Items removed from Google Photos will not be removed from your computer, and vice versa.

October 15, 2018 — Dropped support for OS X Mavericks (3.43.1584.4446)
As of this version, Backup and Sync won’t start on OS X 10.9 Mavericks. Older versions of Backup and Sync still run on 10.9 Mavericks, but are no longer supported. Users will be prompted to upgrade to 10.10 Yosemite or newer.
Fixed an issue where users couldn’t disable context menu items on macOS.
Fixed an issue where some USB devices weren’t detected by Backup and Sync.
Introduced a clearer error message for files that can’t be copied.

May 22, 2018 — Dropped support for OS X Mountain Lion (3.42.9747.1898)
As of this version, Backup and Sync will not start on OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion. Older versions of Backup and Sync still run on 10.8 Mountain Lion, but are no longer supported. Users will be prompted to upgrade to 10.9 Mavericks or newer.
Backup and Sync will no longer ask to sync deletes of metadata files within Apple Photos libraries.
Fixed an issue where the Windows 10 April 2018 Update caused Backup and Sync to lose its configuration settings, forcing users to sign in and reconfigure Backup and Sync.
The case of a customer folder is now preserved when reading from user_setup.config.
